The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) announced the publication of the first joint Canada-US standard for balloon-type ball backwater valves. After several years of collaboration, ULC Standards, together with Underwriters’ Laboratories, Inc. and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), have developed ANSI/CAN/UL/ULC 1201:2016 Sensor Operated Backwater Prevention Systems. The first of its kind in the plumbing and heating sector, it will provide significant savings in cost and time in both Canadian and US marketplaces. This is a significant milestone for Natural Resources Canada’s continued work under its Forward Regulatory Plan 2016-18. CIPH and HRAI played a critical role on behalf of members as a part of the consultation process. The Energy Efficiency Regulations, 2016 have been published, along with a Regulatory Impact Analysis Statement. These regulations come into force on June 28, six months after publication. Stakeholders are encouraged to visit the Canada Gazette or Natural Resources Canada’s website for more information.
