Former National Ground Water Association President (2012) John W. Pitz, CPI and Amvrossios C. Bagtzoglou, PhD are among the first five to receive the association’s new Fellow designation in recognition of outstanding credentials, professional accomplishments and commitment to promoting the increased understanding of groundwater science and water-well system technology. President of N.L. Pitz Inc., Pitz has many groundwater industry achievements, including earning NGWA’s Certified Pump Installer (CPI) designation, as well as demonstrating exceptional knowledge and dedication in water-well pump installation. He has served on various NGWA boards, committees and task forces. Pitz has helped with the development of NGWA’s industry cost calculators for drilling, geothermal and pump installation projects, as well as the pump system sizer and has conducted numerous educational presentations both in the US as well as abroad. Bagtzoglou, a professor and head of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at the University of Connecticut, has many industry accomplishments, including authoring or coauthoring more than 100 articles; serving as an associate editor for several publications, including Groundwater®, Water Resources Research and the Journal of the American Water Resources Association; participating on numerous peer-review panels; supervising the work of more than 70 undergraduate and graduate students and being elected a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Institution of Civil Engineers and American Water Resources Association. The honors were bestowed on Pitz and Bagtzoglou last month during NGWA’s 2016 Groundwater Week in Las Vegas, NV.
