The US Senate passed a comprehensive energy bill (S. 2012) that included sections promoted by IAPMO: a provision authorizing the US EPA’s WaterSense® program and the Nexus of Energy and Water for Sustainability Act (NEWS Act). The Energy Policy Modernization Act of 2016 passed by a vote of 85-12. The text of S. 2012 can be found at https://www.congress.gov/114/bills/s2012/BILLS-114s2012es.pdf. Minnesota formally adopted the 2012 edition of the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC®), with state-specific amendments, effective in January. It replaced the previous state-authored plumbing code. The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Energy Efficiency Standardization Coordination Collaborative (EESCC) announced the publication of a progress report detailing the standardization community’s activity to advance recommendations outlined in the EESCC’s Standardization Roadmap: Energy Efficiency in the Built Environment. Published in June 2014, the roadmap identified gaps where standards and codes were needed to improve energy and water efficiency in the built environment. The Progress Report, which features updates on 71 of the 109 standards-based gaps identified in the roadmap, includes a summary of all of the gaps and can be viewed here.
